Game runs with no GUI

Hello!

I've just bought WFTO, download + install and... there is no menu for me.

I did everything what is said in this thread: https://forum.subterraneangames.com/threads/solution-for-ui-does-not-show-or-game-is-very-slow.8665/

So I change my Intel to AMD as high performance but there is still no menu for me - just the dungeon heart + all sounds. It's changed to "High Performance" even after PC restart.

By watching movies on YT I've found invisible (for now) Campaning button and manage to start game but it stops to work after few seconds.


My PC:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U, 2.20 GHz (4 CPUs)
8 GB RAM
Intel(R) HG Graphics 5500

Hi Kamil. Sorry you're having such issues. According to the log it looks like the GPU being used is still the Intel GPU. I also noticed in your screenshot that you haven't set the coherentui_host.exe to High Performance as well. Try that.


Can you also upload the War for the Overworld Launcher Log.txt file found in the same location as WFTOGame.exe?

I've set coherentui_host.exe to High Performance but I still don't see game menu.

Yep logs say its definitely not using the AMD GPU. Take a look in the Power -> Switchable Graphics Global options and see if its globally disabled. You could try updating the drivers too.

I've tried all possible combinations in Power -> Switchable Graphics Global options and there is still no game menu for me...

I have no idea where else I should (or could) click to change Intel to AMD GPU so the game will finally start to work

In addition to the AMD drivers you could also try updating your Intel GPU drivers: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

Just did as you said - I've updated my Intel GPU drivers from link you've posted. After that I tried to run the game (so the newest patch was dowloaded) but still no game menu...

Scott has escalated this to our support system and we are also investigating the problem you are experiencing on our side. Could you check what the version of your Radeon Software Crimson is? I saw from your screenshot that you have checked "Allow additional power-savings." and that you are in Power saving mode. Could you uncheck the option and move to a High performance mode?

I can see in the screenshots there that the Active Power Plan is set to Power Saving. You'll need to find out how to change that. You might be able to do that from the Windows Power Options.

this must be very annoying and we are sorry that you have such troubles,
but we really struggle to find the cause of the problem and hope yet to find a solution.
Did you also try the workarounds from this steam thread:

This thread contains contains some more solutions we found for similar system specific issues we encountered in the past.
In particular could you try to start the game with the launch parameters "-force-d3d9" and then with "-force-d3d11".
(Just one little hope)
Does it change anything?

If not, then we could really use some help this matter @John Coh.

To confirm have you tried all the fixes listed under this article: Missing, Invisible or Laggy UI Depending on what thread you read there may be more solutions under this more up to date article. (In particular reports suggest that the D3D9 or 11 settings seem to be a common fix.


I've just downloaded Crimson on our AMD machine and my suspicion would be a similar option to the one we request changes on would be listed under the War for the Overworld entry in the gaming tab. Is there any chance you'd be able to send us a screenshot of that screen in particular so we can check if this is the case?

About strating game with parameters "-force-smt" -> I have no idea what are you talking about and how to change it. I'm just a mere PC user - image me as a steretypical, dumb blonde...


John Coh - each method is fine for me: Skype, facebook, mobile... doesn't matter at all. Just need to be online at the same time. What's your time zone?

I can confirm trying those fixes prior to updating to Crimson. I have tried them again, the D3D9 worked once, but the UI has disappeared again on the next three attempts to run the game (this happened the first time I opened it as well about two nights ago). D3D11 had no UI.

Hmmm strange that the D3D9 fix worked once and then it stopped working. I can't see any options in that list that might change the result.

We have a chap from Coherent (Who provide the UI Middleware) who recently replied to another thread where the
UI was missing, looking to investigate further.


I'll see if I can prod him to come take a look here as well.

Just to note as well, I wasn't able to replicate on our AMD machine even with the new Crimson software. So I don't think it's related to that.

Could you upload the logs as in the bug submission guideline? Knowing more about your system will give us more insight to the possible problem. There is still the Catalyst Control Center, but it is opened through the new AMD driver package, if you have installed it when updating.

After John's help the game finally runs, he did his magic :)


But... I still can't play. When I run campaning or skirmish I can't target any tile or creature. Because of that my workers can't dig to make tunnels and room for halls (buildings) or I can't pick them up or cast a spell (posession) on one of them...

That sounds like continued UI issues unfortunately Kamil! :(

I'm so sorry you're continuing to have issues here. I'll contact John myself now and see if we can't sort this out ASAP.

Hi Kamil, Can you confirm whether the 1.4.2 patch resolved the issue for you? There's also a 1.4.2f4 hotfix on the publictestbranch you can try otherwise.

No, the patch 1.4.2f4 didn't solve my problem. I was in touch with John from coherentlabs and after TeamViewer session when he changed some things he told me that I have to wait for next patch. It was 2 weeks ago (18.08.2016). What I didn't tell yet: after last changes on my PC (John's changes) I started to have a bluescreen when my PC want to sleep/hibernate...

That's a shame to hear. It's possible that we don't yet have the version of Coherent in our game that John was alluding to. I expect we'll be able to roll that in for the next patch, I'll be sure to check with our code team whether or not we have the latest version.


The Bluescreen sounds somewhat worrying I wish I could advise you further on that but Windows isn't my speciality I'm afraid. :(

Well.... yesterday a new patch came in. Just downloaded it and sorry but my game is still not working - can't target any pile to dig or pickup any monster. This is taking too long

Just double-checking but have you tried the suggestions in this article? Unable to click game objects / tag tiles


It sounds as thought your issue has changed from not having a UI to not being able to click through to objects and tiles in-game?
